Prof. Ir. Dr. Azraai Kassim appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) of UTM

Skudai, March 31st: Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Azraai Bin Kassim has been appointed as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia effective April 1st 2009.

Mohd. Azraai who was the Dean of Internationalization Affairs replaced Datin Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir whose last day in office was on March 31st 2009.


Mohd. Azraai holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from University of Newcastle, a Master of Science in Civil and Health Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom.


Before his present appointment, he has been entrusted with many important positions in UTM. Such as Head of Environmental Engineering Laboratory from 1985 to 1987, Head of Environmental Engineering Department from 1992-1994, Deputy Dean of Academic from September 1994 to Jun 1997, Deputy Dean of Research and Post Graduate in the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA) from July 1997 to October 1997 and Dean of FKA from October 20th 1997 to December 6th 2000.


Besides his contributions at faculty level, he has also held various UTM senior positions such as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Development from December 7th 2000 to December 6th 2003 and the Dean of School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE) from January 12th 2004 until February 29th 2008.


Apart from his excellent academic career in UTM, Mohd. Azraai is also a member of several professional bodies such as the International Water Association (IWA), Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH), Environment Professionals Register of Malaysia (EPRM) and Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).


He also served as Environmental part-time consultant at Pakar Management Technology Sdn. Bhd. from November 1993 to November 1995 and Euro-Circuit Technology Sdn. Bhd. from December 1995 until now.
